Injectible Fillers Explained

“Today I want to talk about the confusion that exists about injectible cosmetic products. We use injectible cosmetics both here in The Maas ClinicTM, and in our Medi-Spa, The Appearance Care CenterTM, and these are areas where a lot of people have questions, so I wanted to clarify a couple of them.

One of the them is that there is a big difference between BOTOX® and Dysport™, the two main so-called neuromodulators, and injectible filler products like Restylane®, JUVÉDERM® and Radiesse® and Sculptra®.

In general, the facial neuromodulators BOTOX® and Dysport™ are used in the upper third of the face to relax the lines that are around the crow’s feet area, the frown lines between the eye brows, and the forehead line areas. These medicines are specifically made to relax the muscles and relax the expressions of hyper functional muscle activity, Frown lines, lines of stress, smile lines, as well we can use those things in the lower face to relax the muscle bands in the neck for example to help to reduce the banding we see often in the neck.

In contract, the soft tissue fillers are used to restore contour to the face in areas like the nasiolabial fold or crease between the corner of the nose and mouth, to enhance or restore fullness to the lip area, to restore and improve little lines we see in the face, or to improve contours through the cheek area or the tear trough hollows underneath the eyes.

In general, the soft tissue fillers are used in the lower facial area. BOTOX® or Dysport™ products are used to relax the lines of hyper functional facial expression, the frown lines and worry lines we see in the upper face, and together they can be used very effectively in a non invasive, same day sort of way to provide a lot of rejuvenated activities for any patient between age 30 and 90.”
