The 8th Annual Beauty for Books event, hosted by the San Francisco Maas ClinicTM, was held on March 5, 2015 to raise books and donations for the San Francisco, Oakland, and Marin City Public School Districts.

Beauty for Books, a 501c non-profit foundation, was created by The Maas ClinicTM founder and physician, Corey S. Maas MDTM, to help improve literacy and reduce educational shortages in the San Francisco and Bay Area school districts. Since 2007, Beauty for Books has distributed over 26,000 books to its benefactors.

Approximately 32 million adults in the U.S. are illiterate. 21percent of adults in the U.S. read below a 5th grade level, and 19 percent of high school graduates can’t read. California’s illiteracy rate has been estimated at approximately 24%, a number that motivated Dr. Maas to found the program.
To attend the event, guests were asked to donate 20 new or gently used K-8th grade children’s books, or a minimum donation of $100 used to purchase Barnes & Noble gift cards, provided to the school districts to purchase books of their choice. Guests received a $350 gift card from The Maas ClinicTM in appreciation of their donation.
